13-year-old on bicycle struck, killed by car on Hwy 99 near Cottage Grove
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Oregon State Police say a teenage boy is dead after being hit by a car Wednesday evening on Highway 99S.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. at milepost 10.5, three miles north of Cottage Grove.
Police say a 13-year-old boy was riding a bicycle on Hwy 99S when he was struck by a southbound 2002 GMC 2500 pickup driven by 85-year-old Richard L. Perini of Creswell.
The teen suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel, police said.
The driver is cooperating with the investigation and is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
Highway 99S was closed for three hours while OSP conducted the investigation. Traffic was detoured onto Davisson Road.
Police were assisted on scene by Oregon Department of Transportation's Incident Response, Lane County Sheriff's Office, the Cottage Grove Police Department, and South Lane Rural Fire.
