Sutherlin Business Park unit suffers 'substantial damage' in fire

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Firefighters in Sutherlin were called to action when a passerby spotted smoke.

Around 3:42 a.m. Friday, the motorist was passing by the Sutherlin Business Park commercial complex at 551 S. Calapooia Street and noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the building.

Officials say the first arriving firefighters forced entry into building and made a fast attack on the fire, which was near the northwest corner of the structure.

The fire was under control by 4:06 a.m., officials said, and completely extinguished by 4:09.

Safety officials said one of the three units suffered substantial damage.

There were no injuries. The cause is still under investigation.

Officials said Approximately 19 firefighters responded to the fire from Sutherin Department of Safety Fire Service, Oakland Rural Fire District and Fair Oaks Rural Fire Protection District.

There were also four Sutherlin Police officers on scene.
