Sutherlin Blackberry Festival kicks off 28th year, runs through Sunday
SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- The Sutherlin Blackberry Festival kicks off this weekend.
Crews spent Friday morning setting up to honor one of Oregon's best-growing crops as the annual festival kicks off Saturday with a cruise-in car show, fun run and pancake breakfast.
There will be BMX bicycle racing, mud volleyball and a blackberry cook off.
"Down here, between the top of the cascades and the coast, blackberries are very prevalent,” festival chairman Duane Waller says. “The climate is perfect for them and we can't get rid of them; they just won't go away."
The Blackberry Festival this weekend is at Sutherlin's Central Park.
Again this year, the festival will be raising money for college scholarships for students from Oakland and Sutherlin high schools.
