Suspicious fire at new medical office building under investigation, Roseburg Fire says
ROSEBURG, Ore. - An off-duty police officer spotted a fire in the new Umpqua Health medical office building early Thursday morning and called for help, the Roseburg Fire Department said.
Firefighters consider the fire suspicious. The cause is under investigation.
Firefighters responded just before 2 a.m. to the building at 3031 NE Stephens St.
"Firefighters arrived on scene to find light smoke showing inside the two-story structure, which is currently under construction," Roseburg Fire said in a report. "Upon arrival, firefighters found most of the fire already extinguished, reducing the amount of damage to the structure."
The fire did about $50,000 in damage to the building, which is valued at $5.75 million.
Fifteen firefighters help fight the fire. Roseburg Fire had help at the scene from the Roseburg Police Department, Douglas County Fire District #2, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Bay Cities Ambulance.
Umpqua Health broke ground on the 24,759-square-foot medical office building in June 2017. Once complete, it will house 12 primary care doctors, dental services and other health services.
