Summer food program for kids kicks off
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The summer food service program started Monday in Roseburg, and a lot of kids are taking advantage of it.
Those who depend on getting meals at school don't have to worry about summer.
Kids from ages 1-18 can stop by Rose, Sunnyslope or Fir Grove Elementary for a free meal.
Sarah Tsuchiya, part of the summer food service program, says the meals they give to kids helps families that may struggle when school is out. "In the summer sometimes, it's a struggle for some of the families to continue to feed their kids," she said.
Jasmine Grant utilizes the program, and says it helps in her time of need. "We had a few rough years, so we would come down here and eat," she said. "It's really great."
Tsuchiya says the program is funded by the Roseburg School District.
Breakfast is served from 9:00-9:30 am, and lunch is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The food program is available from now through the month of August.
