Sheriff: Man in Firebird t-top fled deputy, ditched car in woods, ran off on foot
WINSTON, Ore. - A man driving a black 1982 Pontiac Firebird t-top sped away from deputies, ditched the car on a forest road and ran away on foot Tuesday evening, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators asked the public Wednesday for help locating the driver. The man is described as a white male, age 40 to 50 with brown curly hair.
The situation started when a deputy spotted the Firebird near Brockway Road and Highway 42.
"The deputy determined the vehicle had the wrong license plates on the vehicle and turned around to investigate further," the sheriff's department said in a report. "The deputy saw the vehicle speed away as he attempted to catch up. The driver of the Firebird turned onto Kent Creek Road from Brockway Road. Several miles up Kent Creek Road, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot."
