Sheriff: Lane County man missing in Douglas County

UPDATE: Mr. Lanz got a ride from a passing motorist Tuesday and returned home.

The following is a press release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office:

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help locating an elderly Lane County area man who has been missing since early this morning.

On Monday, March 24, 2014, Eugene Lanz, age 73, called Douglas County Emergency Communications from his cell phone this morning reporting that he was stuck on a road in a remote area and was in distress. The line disconnected while the 911 operator was trying to get more information. Emergency Communications has made multiple attempts to contact Lanz on his cell, but there has been no answer.

Family members stated that they last spoke with Lanz on March 23 and that he told them that he was headed to the Coos Bay area, however cellular data indicated that Lanz was in the Cavitt Creek area off of Little River Road, near Glide, Oregon.

The Douglas County Search and Rescue Unit were dispatched and have been searching the Cavitt Creek area since this morning, but they have been unable to locate Lanz.

Lanz vehicle is described as a grey 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

If anyone has information, or believes they have seen Eugene Lanz, they are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 541-440-4471.
