Sheriff: Human remains found along S. Umpqua River in Myrtle Creek

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. (KPIC) - Authorities are investigating human remains found in Myrtle Creek, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday.

On Monday, a 911 caller reported walking in the area of the riverbank along the South Umpqua River near Interstate 5, milepost 108, in Myrtle Creek, when he spotted what appeared to be human remains.

Myrtle Creek Police officers responded and confirmed the remains were human in origin, according to the report.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and assumed the investigation.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office will work with the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as identification, police said.

There currently is no additional information for release, the sheriff's office said.
