Sheriff: Eugene bank robber is Milwaukie kidnapping suspect

EUGENE, Ore. - Police are looking for a man who robbed a bank on Seneca Road Friday afternoon.

The U.S. Marshals Service said the suspect is Kelley Swoboda, the same man wanted for kidnapping a woman in Milwaukie last month.

"It appears to be Kelley Swoboda, just based on our experiences and having dealt with him in the past," said Eric Wahlstrom, Supervisor Deputy to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Eugene Police said a man entered the Columbia Bank branch at around 3 p.m. Friday, walked up to the counter with a note demanding money, and left a short time later with some cash.

Police describe Swoboda as a white man in his late 50s, about 5'11" tall and weighing around 180 pounds.

He had medium-length gray hair tucked behind ears, and was last seen wearing a long sleeve white and black zip-up jacket, dark blue jeans and glasses.

He left the bank in a dark green Dodge Caravan with a possibly broken rear window.

"(Swoboda) is very elusive, and he's had a serious history with robbing banks in the past," said Wahlstrom. "It's not something new. He's done his time for those charges. He was released on probation."

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said Swoboda kidnapped a woman from Palm Beach Tan in Milwaukie in late January. He reportedly threw the woman in a purple van and took off. She fought back and jumped from the moving car.

The woman suffered serious injuries.

Swoboda was convicted twice for bank robbery in 1994 and 2006 and once for a weapons violation in 1999. He was also convicted of probation violations.

"He's somebody you should consider armed and dangerous," said Wahlstrom. "That's why we urge people, if the do see him, to call local police immediately."

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is heading up the investigation. Anyone with a possible tip on Swoboda's whereabouts is asked to call 503-723-4949.

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of kidnapping suspect Kelly Swoboda.
