Sheriff: Cottage Grove man wanted after fleeing deputies, ditching car, running into brush
DRAIN, Ore. - A Cottage Grove man fled deputies at high speed Wednesday before ditching his car and fleeing into the brush on foot Wednesday afternoon, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
A search failed to locate the suspect, identified as 39-year-old James Francis Bigelow.
The sheriff's office said Bigelow is considered wanted. Deputies ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at (541) 440-4471 or local law enforcement.
The situation started at 3:40 p.m. when a deputy saw Bigelow in a black Hyundai Tiburon on Umpqua Highway 99 near Curtin Road.
"Bigelow took off at a high rate of speed and failed to stop when the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop for traffic violations," the sheriff's office said in a report. "Bigelow turned onto Upper Smith River Road and eventually onto South Fork. After taking several spur roads, Bigelow fled from the vehicle on foot and ran into the brush. He was not located after an extensive search."
