MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - The body found along the South Umpqua River on Monday has tentatively been identified, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

The man died within the last 6 months, according to the Douglas County Medical Examiner.

The man's identity is being withheld until authorities can notify his family.

A person walking along the river not far from Interstate 5 spotted the body on Monday and called 911.

The location left investigators with an initially large number of possibilities.

"Being that it's along I-5, it's hard to tell at this point. We have missing persons in Douglas County and throughout the state of Oregon," Lt. Chris Merrifield said Tuesday. "It's too hard to tell who this might be at this point, especially given the location of where the body was found."
