COOS BAY, Ore. -- Two Coos Bay men were arrested after a Coos County Sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop in the Empire area, police said.

On Monday, sheriff’s deputy was working overtime on seatbelt enforcement in Coos Bay's Barview area when he conducted the stop around 9:13 a.m. on a 1994 Cadillac Sedan at the Empire 7-11 for numerous traffic violations.

During the stop the deputy learned the driver, 29-year-old Zahnie J. Moore, and passenger, 28-year-old William M. Patterson, both of Coos Bay, had valid warrants for their arrests. Police detained both on the warrants.

While they were being detained, police say they suspected meth on Patterson.

Drug detection K-9 "Kara" from the Coquille Police Department was brought in and alerted to the vehicle, police said. The car was impounded and towed from the scene by Mast Towing to be held pending application for a search warrant.

Police say a "large amount of currency" was also seized from Moore, the driver.

Both men were transported to the Coos County Jail where they were booked and held on the warrants.

Zahnie Moore was being held on a Coos County misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear and William Patterson was being held on a Coos County felony warrant for contempt of court.

A 29-year-old woman who was let out of the car just a few blocks from where the stop occurred, was not detained.
