Sheriff: 2 bodies found in ashes of Creswell home
CRESWELL, Ore. - Two bodies found in the ashes of a house fire last week have not yet been identified, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.
"The fire burned so hot that at this point we don't even know if the bodies are male or female," Sgt. Carrie Carver with the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.
The Lane County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify the victims.
The sheriff had previously said two men and a truck remained unaccounted for after the fire July 16 on Bryant Road.
A fire investigator at the scene a day after the fire said there were confirmed fatalities. The sheriff's office declined to confirm that statement at the time.
On Tuesday, the sheriff's office said two bodies had been located in the remains of the burned home.
The fire was extensive and destroyed most of the two story home on the working farm, resulting in a large amount of debris to be sifted through, the sheriff's office said.
