School's out for summer: Watch for kids

ROSEBURG, Ore. - School is out for the summer, and that means that kids will be roaming the town. Local law enforcement officials warn drivers to extra vigilant.

Consider: When you drive by a crosswalk at a school, you slow down and you look for kids.

But now that school is out and summer is here, kids could be playing anywhere.

"Kids just - sometimes they get excited and they don't think, and they might dart out in front of traffic," said Dwes Hutson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. "So if people would just take a little bit extra time, slow down, and just be aware that there's going to be a lot more foot traffic and kids out and about."

Hutson urged drivers to be especially cautious in residential neighborhoods.
