ROSEBURG, Ore. -- NASCAR drivers started their engines in Roseburg for the first time in five years.
The NASCAR K & N Pro Series West was held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
A Roseburg teen, Andrew Koens, competed in both the modified and the NASCAR races.
The nationally televised race was just a day before Koens' 18th birthday, and he says competing was a great birthday present.
"It's all about proving yourself to people,” Koens said. “Even if I don't win, if I can just prove to people that I am a good driver and I have the potential, that's really all I need to keep building up my career."
Koens placed third in the modifieds 75-lap race and 14th out of 20 in the NASCAR 150-lap race.
He says he started racing when he was 15 years old.
