ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg man is dead after he ran out in front of a moving semi-truck on the interstate Friday night, Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday, OSP and medical personnel from Douglas County responded to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and commercial motor vehicle on Interstate 5 near milepost 123 in Douglas County, the sheriff's office said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2016 Kenworth CMV, driven by 36-year-old California man Zekah Crook, was southbound on I-5 when a pedestrian, identified as 21-year-old Joshua Ward of Roseburg, ran from the shoulder and launched himself in front of the Kenworth, authorities said.

Ward sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving measures were made by EMS.

Ward's body was released to Person's Funeral Home and next of kin was notified, the sheriff's office said.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Douglas County SO, Douglas County Fire Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
