Roseburg elementary students learn energy efficiency

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Elementary school kids are learning about energy efficiency through a program sponsored by Avista Utilities.

The Avista Kids program uses online interactive games to teach the students.

Teachers who use Avista Kids received a $100 grant, and some Hucrest Elementary School kids got a few tips on saving energy.

"You could save electricity and make sure that you don't have to spend so much on your electricity bill and stuff," said Hucrest's Taylor Adkins.

"Even as adults we all tend to forget but it's great to have kids who are at home giving parents a reminder," said Avista's Steve Vincent. "We need to spend our money elsewhere and not just on utility bills, but on saving energy. It's an important thing for us to recognize right now."

Five schools in Douglas County participated in Avista Kids.
