ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg High School senior has done what only about 4% of boy scouts are able to accomplish: Attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
Ryan Patterson of Roseburg was honored at an 'Eagle Court of Honor' Wednesday night in Roseburg.
Officials say a scout must earn at least 21 merit badges to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, as well as plan and complete a service project.
Patterson's project benefited the RHS band program, which he has been a member through his high school career.
Patterson credits his friends, family and mentors that have helped him along the way. "I feel like that's really what this award is all about, making the bonds that you do along the way, and also earning the skills and what not," he said.
"It's just been a great experience and I'm glad," he said.
