Registration begins soon for 2018 PartnerSports Camp in Douglas County
The annual summer gathering is slated for July 16-26 (Monday through Thursday each week) and will pair 50 campers with disabilities and 50 partners without disabilities for a fun-filled learning experience.
In working with campers, partners will gain an understanding of the daily challenges each faces. The two-week camp will focus on various sports while also featuring traditional activities such as hiking, fishing, crafts and campfire cooking.
“This camp benefits our community in so many ways,” said Bryan Hinson, Douglas ESD’s special education administrator. “It provides kids from all over Douglas County the opportunity to do something fun and productive with their summer and the chance to get to know people they might not otherwise meet. It provides kids with a chance to reach goals, build confidence and learn from each other, while building skills and making lifelong friends.”
Activities for the event, formerly known as Camp Shriver, will take place at or will be launched from the YMCA, located at 1151 NW Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. This is the event’s 13th year.
Organizers are also seeking funds through the 100 for $150 Club, a donation drive to make camp free for all youth. The club’s goal is to register at least 100 donors pledging $150 each. The $150, tax-deductible sum represents the estimated cost to accommodate one camper.
Contributions for PartnerSports Camp of any amount are welcome and can be sent to Douglas ESD at 1871 NE Stephens St., Roseburg, OR 97470. The 100 for $150 Club donation drive push ends May 31; however, donations are accepted year-round.
