Program matches savings for participants
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A program in Douglas County is helping people save money.
It's called Dreamsavers: a savings program run through NeighborWorks Umpqua.
Candidates work towards their personal savings goal, and Dreamsavers matches up to $2,000 dollars of saved cash.
Rebekah Barger, the IDA Program Manager, says some people are amazed that it is not a loan program. "The most common response is just disbelief that it's really a true program and there isn't anything to repay."
Barger says this program serves 14 counties, and she's seen well over 300 graduates.
Barger adds that it is a great way for people with low to moderate income build wealth, sometimes for the first time.
