POW's, Missing in Action veterans honored

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Every year, the third Friday in September is 'Ex-Prisoners of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day.'

This year, nearly a dozen ex POW's and people who had been listed as MIA were honored through a special ceremony at the VA hospital in Roseburg.

Lloyd Henson was one of those honored. He fought in World War II, and says it's an honor to receive the recognition. "There's very few of us left, and I think probably this is a case of diminishing return, because there used to be many more of us and now they're getting fewer and fewer every year," he said.

Each of the honorees were given a special pillow and a pin to thank them for thier service.

This day is one of only six days in the year that the POW and MIA flags are flown.
