ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A 31-year-old man accused of robbing and assaulting an elderly woman in Roseburg, has been arrested.

Roseburg Police took Derrick Meeks into custody after he allegedly following an 84-year-old woman home from Sherm's Thunderbird market.

Police say the victim sustained serious injuries.

Police say watchful neighbors were helpful in making an arrest.

"The evidence we've used to sort of make a good case here was from witnesses and neighbors that were involved and alert and aware of what's going on in their neighborhood," said Roseburg Police Sgt. Dennis Chrisenbery.

Roseburg Police also say it's helpful to make eye contact with people around you to avoid becoming a victim.
