SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Springfield police are asking motorists to avoid the area of Gateway Boulevard in front of Panda Express in Springfield due to a traffic crash involving a motorcyclist.

Gateway has been reopened, police said at 7:45 p.m.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. in front of the Panda Express and the investigation is currently in progress.

Police say the 26-year-old man who crashed was transported with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.

According to initial investigation by police, the motorcyclist was southbound on Gateway when a woman driving northbound didn't see the motorcyclist and failed to yield while turning left.

They say he was ejected from the bike.

Police say the woman is cooperating with the police investigation.

There's no update on the condition of the motorcyclist, police reported.

The Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.

Several motorcyclists died on Oregon roads this week, prompting calls for greater awareness of the vehicles on the road.
