Police: Father and son cut through doors with chainsaw to attack man
GRANTS PASS, Ore. - A father and son forced their way into a home by cutting through a door with a chainsaw late Tuesday night, using the running saw and an axe handle to attack a man inside, law enforcement in Grants Pass said.
The investigation started around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday with multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance on Dowell Road in Grants Pass.
Officers arrived on scene and found the victim with cuts and abrasions on his arms and welts and bruising on his upper body. Medics treated him at the scene.
According to police, the preliminary investigation found the victim had got in a dispute earlier in Tuesday with Craig Hindle Jr.
Hindle Jr. and his father, Craig Hindle Sr., arrived at the Dowell Road home.
Hindle Sr. used a chainsaw to cut through the front door to enter the home, then use the saw to cut through an interior door to access the room where the victim was hiding, police said.
The father then used the running saw to to assault the victim while the son hit the victim with the axe handle, police said.
Oregon State Police located the Hindles on Wednesday morning in Merlin, Oregon. Police booked the men into the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree assault and first-degree burglary.
People can be charged with burglary when they unlawfully enter a home with the intent to commit a crime, like assault.
