Police: DUII suspect crashes stolen Model A in Crooked River

PRINEVILLE, Ore. - An intoxicated homeless man stole a fully restored 1930 Ford Model A coupe and later crashed the classic car into the Crooked River, Oregon State Police said.

Erik Blake Halpin, 34, faces charges of DUII, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver Involved in an Accident after the theft and crash Sunday afternoon.

Police in Prineville took a report of a stolen Model A on Sunday.

Later in the day, police responded to a report of a car in the Crooked River along Highway 27.

Witnesses at the scene told police Halpin swam to shore after the crash.

Halpin was taken to the hospital, then arrested upon release and booked into the Crook County Jail.

A tow company recovered the vehicle from the river.
