Police chase will end violently... for a drill

WINSTON, Ore. -- Medical trauma, gunfire and explosions. All three will be happening near Winston on Thursday, but officials say you don't have to worry: it's a drill.

Officials with UCC say the annual emergency services drill will start at about 11:30 am on Thursday, where a police chase will end violently at the Starlite Drive-In off Interstate 5 near Winston.

Students training as paramedics will work to assist patients of a mock car crash and shooting, while fire science students work to contain the fire from an explosion.

This mass casualty drill will be assisted by personnel from multiple public safety agencies from around the county, who will provide emergency vehicles at the scene and transport patients to UCC's nursing simulation lab on Stewart Parkway.

There, nursing students will join the drill and treat patients.

Transportation of patients from the Starlite Drive-In is expected to start at about 12:30 p.m.

There will be signs posted close to I-5 to alert motorists that the roadside devastation is a drill and not a real emergency.
