Police: 2 seriously injured in DUII crash

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Two men suffered serious injuries when a drunk driver lost control of his speeding car and slid into a roadside ditch, causing the car to overturn and eject the driver early Tuesday morning, Oregon State Police said.

Tyler D. Wells, 21, of Cottage Grove faces charges of DUII, Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Medics took Wells and his passenger, 23-year-old Kyle Murrell of Cottage Grove, to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with serious injuries, police said.

Neither man was wearing safety restraints, according to police. Both men appeared to have been thrown from the car in the crash, according to South Lane Fire and Rescue.

The crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 99 near River Avenue, about a mile north of Cottage Grove.

Police said Wells lost control of his 1997 Honda Civic as he sped through a curve. The car slide sideways into a ditch and overturned.
