Parkview Skate Team raises money to increase the height of their jumps
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg roller skating team is raising money so that they can increase the height of their jumps.
Parkview Skate Team held a garage sale last weekend to pay for a new piece of equipment.
A $1,200 jump tender is a long rod which helps skaters perfect their jumps in the rink.
"We have so many younger skaters that are learning how to jump a full rotation and sometimes it can be really scary for them to want to get up and all the way around,” says skate team member and Miss Douglas County 2016 Raechel Warren, “so by having the jump tender they can learn what it feels like without worrying about the fear of falling."
There are about 25 members on the skate team who enter competitions throughout the state.
After the garage sale, the team is about $600 away from buying the jump tender and perfecting their jumps.
Any extra money they raise will go toward new skates, rink upgrades, and skater scholarships.
