ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Christmas might be a little brighter for children around the world thanks to some donations from community members across Douglas County.
For more than 20 years, Operation Christmas Child has been collecting boxes filled with toys, school supplies and even shoes to send to children around the world.
"We try to reach out to those children. Let them know they're not forgotten and make sure that they get a box that expresses love to them," said OCC's southern Oregon coordinator Wayne Davis.
This year, Operation Christmas Child plans to send 15,000 boxes to needy children in over 100 countries.
Diane Hittle, the organization's mobilization coordinator, said some of those boxes will reach children in areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
"Frequently our boxes from Roseburg and from the southern Oregon areas go to the Philippines," said Hittle.
Volunteers will be working with the week-long toy drive at the Roseburg Christian Fellowship Youth Campus, and Davis said they'll be collecting donations up until Nov. 25.
