ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Low temperatures can mean snowy or icy driving conditions for drivers.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says to slow down and keep extra space between you and other drivers.

If your car happens to veer off the road, deputies say this is what you should do:

"Try to get off of the roadway if at all possible, get out of the lane of travel,” says Sgt. Brad O’Dell. “If it's a situation where you're a road hazard, you're in the middle of the roadway, you may need to call for emergency assistance, and we encourage people to do that."

Deputies also suggest to give yourself extra time in the morning to avoid any accidents.
