ODFW promoting hunter safety in Umpqua Valley
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Hunters in the Umpqua Valley should also be thinking about safety, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has a hunter education program promoting safety for hunters under 18-years old.
ODFW officials say the biggest safety tip is to point your firearm in the right direction and keep your finger off the trigger.
The Roseburg Rod and Gun Club is opening its shooting range to hunters.
"We promote what we call a sighting," instructor Heege Jarvis said. "People can come down to the Rod & Gun Club and actually sight in their rifles prior to going hunting so they understand their rifles are properly sighted in and working properly."
The shooting range is open to the public Thursday night through Sunday morning.
