Music on the Halfshell kicks off summer concert series in Roseburg
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Recording artist Luísa Maita will kick off Music on the Halfshell Tuesday evening (June 21) at Roseburg's Stewart Park.
The concert begins at 7 p.m.
"It's pretty fulfilling," says Halfshell vice president Charley Thompson. "Most everybody, ya know the first morning and the first evening, everybody has a little bit of a grump factor because we're trying to remember, 'well, what did we do last year? Huh, okay.' But once that's over and you see a happy audience, it's great."
Event coordinators are expecting two-to-three thousand people and are always looking for volunteers to help set up and tear down the event.
The Brazilian singer "takes on the work of the legendary Elis Regina, one of bossa nova's most revered stars, on the Brazilian TV series Cantoras do Brasil (Singers of Brazil) which was recently broadcast on Canal Brasil TV," the singer's official website says.
Since she returned home after her last US tour in July, Luísa was a featured vocalist in the closing ceremony of the London Olympics, the website says.
Luísa was also a featured artist on this summer's tribute album to Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso.
"She has also been invited to perform at the Google Zeitgeist conference in Phoenix, Arizona in October, an annual invitation-only gathering of executives, artists, writers, journalists and a variety of innovators at the forefront of today's 'Zeitgeist,'" the website says.
If you'd like to help out, just show up at Stewart Park before and after each Tuesday performance.
