Man extracted from rock quarry

(Jackson County Fire District 3)

Central Point, Ore. - UPDATE: the man is stable with multiple lower extremity fractures. Doctors at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center will keep an eye on the patient's condition.

Crews rescued a man trapped under a CAT excavator on Old Military Road.

No power tools were used to free the man to prevent additional rocks in falling. Crews from Jackson County Fire District 3 and local agencies used shovels and their bare hands to free the man trapped inside for fear of causing more rocks to fall.

Crews were on scene since 3:00 P.M.

The man was taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

"Definitely a unique situation," Ashley Blakely of JCFD 3 said. "We don't get these types of calls all the time. Fortunately, we do train for events like this and so each situation is different. You have to have situational awareness and look at the potential hazards around you."

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
