Man accused of impersonating a police officer at mall
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A man faces a charge of Impersonating an Officer after he displayed a badge and gun at Gateway Mall last month, claiming to be an undercover police officer, Springfield Police said.
Police arrested Travis Lee Riley, 29, of Junction City on Tuesday. He faces charges of Impersonating an Officer and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the July 18 incident at Gateway Mall, police said.
Riley was also charged with 2 counts of Burglary 1 and 2 counts of Theft 1 by the Lane County Sheriff's Department stemming from two unrelated incidents.
The investigation started July 18 with a report that a man displayed a gun and badge at Gateway Mall, claiming to be an undercover officer looking for lost or stolen property.
Police did not say what led them to suspect Riley in the case.
