The man accused of murdering his mom on Mother’s Day before stabbing an employee at an Estacada grocery store was in court on Tuesday.

Joshua Webb is facing murder and attempted murder as a suspect in the killing and attack that took place on Sunday.

The 36-year-old was arraigned on those charges Tuesday through a remote video feed. Officials said he will appear in court again next week.

Witnesses told police that Webb walked into the Harvest Market Thriftway Sunday afternoon covered in blood, holding a knife in one hand and a human head in the other. According to Sandy Police, he stabbed a store clerk before other employees managed to hold him to the ground for officers. The injured employee is recovering at the hospital.

Sandy Police officials confirmed that the head belonged to Webb’s mother, 59-year-old Tina Marie Webb, who was found dead at her home in Colton a short time later.

KATU News talked with Webb’s friend, who said the accusations are very uncharacteristic of the Joshua he knows.

"He loved everyone, and he spent his whole time trying to voicefully promote forgiveness between each other," Curtis Strandy, Webb's friend said.

Strandy says he had spoken to Webb a few days before he was arrested. He says Webb had been acting normally the past few weeks except that he had been actively pursuing forgiveness from people for minor wrongdoings he committed in high school.

"Our world was about taking care of each other, I wish I would have been there or called him that day to help him when he needed me," Strandy said.

Joshua’s father, David Webb, said in an interview that his son had vision problems and was likely depressed.

"I never foresaw a problem. If I had I would have stopped it," David Webb told The Associated Press before bursting into loud sobs during a phone interview. "I just can't believe I lost my wife and son in one day. ... I don't know. I wish I did. I wish I had some answers, but I don't. I waited all my life to retire with my wife, and now I can't. That's all I know."
