Kitchen fire damages restaurant
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Firefighters responded to a fire in the kitchen at a restaurant Wednesday night.
A passerby noticed thick black smoke coming from the roof of Los Dos Amigos Restaurant and called for help.
Firefighters arrived just before 11 p.m. and forced their way inside. They found the restaurant filled with smoke and a fire burning in the kitchen, the Roseburg Fire Department said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire but remained on scene to check the building with a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire had not spread.
A fire investigator determined that the fire was most likely caused by an appliance being left on and excessive grease adjacent to this appliance.
The kitchen was equipped with a wet chemical fire suppression system that did not activate, the fire department said.
Firefighters estimated the damage at $20,000.
