'It's kind of like the Oscars of cheese'
BANDON, Ore. - Face Rock Creamery entered the American Cheese Society's annual competition - and for the second year in a row, creamed the competition for flavored curds.
Now two of their three signature curds have brought home blue ribbons.
The Vampire Slayer Garlic Curd won Best Flavored Curd in North America last year. This year, the In Your Face Three-Pepper Curd claimed the honor.
Cheesemakers in Wisconsin used to bring home the award regularly, but the creamery in Bandon has changed that trend.
"It's kind of like the Oscars of cheese," said Greg Drobot with Face Rock. "So cheesemakers from all over the country enter their cheese to hopefully get recognized for their good work."
"So we're pretty proud of it, and it's really due to our good milk, which comes out of the Coquille Valley at the Scolari farm, and the way we do things here at the factory," said Brad Sinko, the creamery's head cheesemaker.
The cremery released a new cheddar cheese this week, which they plan to enter in next year's competition.
