'I just wanted families and kids to have a better Christmas'

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Sutherlin students took it upon themselves to make sure kids in need have something under the tree this holiday season.

Dozens of students lined the front of West Intermediate School last week, proudly holding gifts.

But the kids weren't excited because they got new toys, the gifts were donations.

One 6th grader gave away 51 toys, and he says it made him feel good to know that those gifts will go to kids in need. "I just wanted families and kids to have a better Christmas," said Carson Simpson.

The presents were picked up by Douglas County Fire District #2 personnel.

The donations were packed into the back of an ambulance, and the vehicle was overflowing with gifts from Sutherlin students.

All of the gifts were donated to families in need.
