Hiring Our Heroes: 'It's up to the vet to get down here'

ROSEBURG, Ore. - As National Guard troops from Roseburg prepare to deploy to Afghanistan, a job fair was held Wednesday morning for veterans and their spouses at the armory.

This year's "Hiring Our Heroes" job fair had 43 employers on hand to help fine-tune resumes and offer advice to veterans who are looking for work.

"I know a lot of vets who are homeless and/or out of work," said veteran Kip Burrus. "There needs to be a forum for people to know what's available. Then it's up to the vet to get down here, you know?"

Since March 2011, "Hiring Our Heroes" has held more than 700 job fairs.

According to the Northwest region associate, they've been responsible for 23,000 veterans finding work.
