Grant helps open up new health clinic in Sutherlin

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Over $2 million has been given to four health centers in Oregon, and the Umpqua Community Health Center is one of them.These grants will help health centers expand access to health care.After receiving an A+ rating for their federal site visit this summer, health center will use their $300,000 grant money to help those in north Douglas County.Brenda Lewis, the Resource & Development Director, says the Sutherlin clinic will start seeing patients soon, thanks to the money. "What that does for us is, helps us with the costs and the ongoing operation of opening a new primary care, medical and dental care clinic in Sutherlin."Currently, Sutherlin only has two primary health care providers for a city of 20,000 people.Through this grant, the new health center in Sutherlin will be open by March 1.
