Gov. Kitzhaber takes the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money to fight ALS

PORTLAND, Ore. - Even Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has joined in the fun and taken the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for ALS.

He posted a video on YouTube Thursday morning, showing him dumping a bucket of ice on his head.

"I was challenged by Rep. Tobias Read who's a great American and a great Oregonian," Kitzhaber says in the video.

"Furthermore, his father died from this disease, so I'm accepting because of that but also because as a medical doctor I understand the importance of medical research. So not only am I taking this challenge and about to pour this bucket of ice water on my head, I plan to donate personally to the ALS Association, and I hope you'll join me. We ready?"

He then pours the bucket of ice water on his head and then goes on to challenge Dr. Joe Robertson, president of OHSU, Bill Wyatt, the head of the Port of Portland, and Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury.
