Four days, four fatal crashes in Douglas County
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg police are reporting another deadly crash, this time involving a pedestrian, bringing the number fo people killed on county roads to 4 in 4 days.
On Sunday at about 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident in the 700 block of NW Garden Valley Boulevard.
Authorities say 59-year-old man apparently crossed the road in front of a 1985 Chevy pickup being driven by Irik Collins, 23, of Roseburg.
Police say Collins was unable to avoid hitting the man.
The male was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance with critical injuries. He was later transferred to River Bend Medical Center in Springfield, where he succumbed to his injuries just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday.
The accident is being investigated cooperatively by the Roseburg Police Department and Oregon State Police.
At this time the investigation is ongoing, but the Roseburg Police Department does not believe there will be any criminal charges filed.
The man who died is not being identified, pending notification of his family.
Roseburg police identified the woman who was killed Saturday morning in a deadly crash on Diamond Lake Blvd as Charlotte Ann Fields, 51, of Myrtle Creek. The man who allegedly hit her is in jail facing charges of homicide and driving under the influence.
Authorities say a Glendale man also died this weekend in a single vehicle crash on I-5 late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Emergency crews discovered the driver, William Allen Furia, 33, of Glendale, deceased at the scene.
A log truck driver was also killed last week, when his rig ran off the road and down an embankment near Tenmile on Thursday.
