Former Clackamas County detective accused of drug trafficking

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says one of its former employees was arrested in Chicago last week for drug trafficking.

William Floyd Marsh Jr., 56, was pulled over for speeding in a construction zone Feb. 14 in Chicago, the sheriff's office says.

Police say sheriff's deputies there found $80,000 in cash in a toolbox and two handguns. They then served a search warrant at two storage lockers in Chicago linked to Marsh and discovered 55 pounds of high-grade marijuana worth about $750,000 on the street. They also found $2,185 in cash.

The arrest of Marsh, a former detective, prompted the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to conduct its own investigation, and on Feb. 18 deputies found a large cache of illegal drugs in a Milwaukie, Ore. storage unit also linked to Marsh, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office says they found 6.3 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.4 pounds of heroin and 5.7 ounces of cocaine inside. They also got a warrant to search Marsh's home in Creswell, which is just south of Eugene.

"Everyone here at the sheriff's office was deeply disappointed by the news that a former employee of this organization made the choice to violate the laws that all of us are sworn to uphold," Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said in a statement in response to the allegations that one of its former employees was involved in drug trafficking. "This is an especially bitter blow because the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has made the fight against illegal drugs a top priority in our community."

Clackamas County deputies said they also arrested a possible accomplice of Marsh, 46-year-old Gerald Matthew Wiese, who they say is connected to the Milwaukie storage locker.

Marsh is being held on $1.5 million bail and faces armed violence, cannabis trafficking, delivery of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis and money laundering charges.

He's scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21 in a Kane County courtroom in Chicago.

Wiese is in Clackamas County Jail on $250,000 bail. He's facing delivery of controlled substances and drug possession charges.
