Forestry Dept.: Cutting near Cooper Creek Reservoir 'follows the rules'
SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Some concerned citizens in Douglas County informed us about the possibility of illegal clearcutting near the Cooper Creek Reservoir in Sutherlin.
We followed up with the Oregon Department of Forestry.
They tell us the Sutherlin Water Control District is following the rules set out in the Oregon Forest Practices Act, with some cutting inside the areas reserved for wildlife.
"There can be some management inside of the buffer,” ODF’s Keith Waldron said. “It helps with some of the forest health issues there, too, but some trees are going to be retained around the reservoir."
The Oregon Department of Forestry says they do routine checks to make sure wildlife and forest health is protected.
