Fire season is over, but: 'Use caution and common sense'

COOS BAY, Ore. -- Fire season is over, but fire officials want you to know fire prevention is not.

Coos Forest Protective Association lifted fire season on Friday.

The wetter weather prompted the decision for Coos, Curry and western Douglas counties.

It’s important to remember that open burning can still start a large fire.

"Use caution and some common sense, and if you've got a large pile that can wait for wetter conditions…I know nobody likes standing out in the rain with their burn pile, but burning in the rain is usually the best time to burn," says CFPA’s Jef Chase.

Be sure to check with your city and local fire departments before you burn to find out if you need a burn permit.
