Enrollment down for UCC summer classes

WINCHESTER, Ore. -- Summer School is officially in session, but how is enrollment looking at Umpqua Community College?

Marketing Director Bentley Gilbert tells KPIC KPIC it's a little slower than previous years.

However, he hopes this is the sign of a positive change in the community. "We're seeing a good amount of students, but it's certainly been less than we've had in the past two or three years, and even in the summer term," said Gilbert. "Hopefully that means that the economy is recovering and people have jobs to go to."

Umpqua Community College is offering a wide array of classes this summer.

Gilbert noted a few unique new courses, like the field botany class, which will take students to different geological sites on the Green Tortoise.
