Douglas Electric Co-Op takes steps to protect members from cyber attacks
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Cyber attacks are a reality today and Douglas Electric Cooperative is taking steps to keep its members protected.
Last month, the City of Atlanta was hit by a ransomware attack.
Those attacks block access to important information until a ransom is paid.
For Douglas Electric Cooperative, the focus is on preventing those attacks.
"We patch our systems, so if there is ransomware attacks, Microsoft and other companies--software companies--will issue update patches. We always make sure we're on the latest update patches," explained the utility’s Phil Bigler.
Douglas Electric has also added another person to their staff as the cyber security load increases.
