Douglas County Assessor has two challengers
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Tuesday was the last day to file for open Douglas County positions, and county assessor Susan Acree will have two people trying to unseat her.
Roger Hartman and Harry McDermott have filed to run against Acree.
Hartman says he is running for the assessor's position because he would like to make some changes. "Well, somebody has got to get in there and change things," he said. "I think I'm uniquely qualified. I am a registered appraiser, and I've got a lot of business background and I can think outside the box."
Acree has held her current position for four years, and says she has focused on keeping the public informed. "Two years ago in our tax statements, we sent out 77,000 tax statements," she said. "There was an insert for the first time, giving assessment information."
We reached out to Harry McDermott, but have not yet gotten a response.
Douglas County's primary election will be held on May 20.
