Donation provides play equipment, computers for kids
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Thanks to a major investment from Umpqua Bank, a blank field in Micelli Park in Roseburg will soon be turned into a children's play area.
Local Umpqua Bank associates thought of the Micelli Park/Templan Beach property as an area that the city had, but was under-utilized.
Lance Colley, Roseburg City Manager, says the money will help them complete a project the city wanted to do, but didn't have the funds for. "This will provide the kid-centered play area that we're missing," he said. "It's a very high priority in our park improvement plan and we were not in a position to fund this, probably for many years to come, so it came as a great surprise and really is a unique opportunity for us."
At Canyonville Elementary, Umpqua will fund a full computer lab to ensure that the school's educators have the best technology to teach their students.
Principal Brody Guthrie says he couldn't be more excited for the opportunity that the bank is bringing to his school.
The Roseburg park project is expected to be completed by next summer.
