LA PINE, Ore. – The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating the suspect involved in a Sunday night pursuit.

Sunday around 10:51 p.m., a deputy was patrolling the area of Day Road and Cascade Lane and tried to stop a driver in a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee for failing to properly signal a turn. The deputy also noticed the driver was sitting low in the seat and trying not to be seen.

When the deputy turned on his emergency lights, the driver quickly accelerated away.

The deputy followed the driver northbound on Day Road and then eastbound onto Sunset Lane.

The driver entered a residential driveway at the end of Sunset Lane and drove into the house, causing minor damage.

The driver then fled on foot to the north.

Deputies tracked the man for a while, but could not locate him.

Based on evidence collected from the vehicle, they identified the driver as 42-year-old Jason D. Walter of La Pine.

He is wanted on charges of attempting to elude, hit and run and first-degree criminal mischief.

Investigators believe Walter is living at an unknown location in the La Pine area. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911 and reference case number 18-71560.
